The Château of Bazoches

On the slopes of a hill directly facing Vézelay, this medieval 12th century castle is built in the shape of a trapezium, with four towers and a keep surrounding an inner courtyard. Bazoches was acquired in 1675 by the Marechal de Vauban, born just a short distance away.

Vézelay Basilica

THe Basilica was founded in 858-859 by Girart de Roussillon, and a few years later the Monastery was placed under the immediate protection of the Holy See. The special feature of the Basilica is the association of two architectural styles : Romanesque and Gothic.

The Basilica and the site of Vézelay became part of Unesco World Heritage in 1979.
